Portland is well known for it’s lover’s of the outdoors because so many great things are very close by if you have access to a car or are thinking about a reason to rent one! Here are a few of our favorites spots to adventure outside of the city:

The Columbia River Gorge: 45-60 minutes east is one of the best places to hike, eat and find magical views.

- Crown Point Vista House: Beautiful views of the gorge that you can drive up to, no hiking required. https://vistahouse.com/

- Hood River, OR: Great town to check out a handful of Oregon breweries, The Fruit Loop (Google it), great food and views of Kite surfers riding the winds and river waves. A wonderful place to stop for lunch after a morning hike.

Mount Hood: Another iconic Oregon gem that is an easy 60 minute east drive outside of Portland. You can add it to your loop with The Gorge and Hood River or make it a stand alone stop. Along with the Mountain View’s are numerous hikes, mountain lakes and camping spots if you are feeling extra adventurous. Please check forecasts, snow pack and exercise outdoor awareness. Rivers and lakes are fed by glaciers and run very cold even in June.

- Timberline Lodge: Famous for being used in as part of the hotel in the movie The Shining.

- Timothy Lake: Great campsites and lots of little day spots to have lunch at or rent a Kayak to adventure the lake.

The Oregon Coast: About 60 minutes west of Portland you will hit the Pacific Ocean and so of the best seafood of your life. We love a day beach trip or a cozy cabin weekend. Here’s a list of a few faves we highly encourage exploring.

- Astoria- where the Goonies and Kindergarten Cop were filmed!

Wine Tour in Willamette Valley: Oregon is known for its wonderful wines. We recommend doing 2-3 wineries if you choose to plan a day. Our faves are: Argyle, Domaine Serene, and Archery Summit.
